If I were a bear
And a big bear too,
I shouldn’t much care
If it froze or snew . . .
I’d have a fur muffle-ruff to cover my jaws,
And [white] furry mittens on my big [white] paws.

“Furry Bear”
A. A. Milne
This photo shows Hope, a beloved polar bear who lived at the St. Louis Zoo from 1986 until her death in 2009 at age 23-1/2. She was named for Point Hope, Alaska, where polar bears exist in the wild. Hope was extremely playful and brought much joy to zoo visitors.
