Afloat

Oh to be lifted up adrift in the current,
buoyed up in the ocean’s swirl . . .
See how the tide sweeps all before its brush . . .
Washing every stone to full lustre
tugging at every seaweed and thought
no matter what stuff once bought litters
the mind’s crevices and ocean’s floor.

[This photograph shows inclusions in a round glass fishing float. These devices were once used by fishermen worldwide to keep their nets afloat in the ocean. Many fishing floats are still adrift. Some eventually wash ashore and become collectors’ items.]
